sketches + interations
Inspired by origami and paper umbrellas, I wanted to create a form that was able to mimic the blooming of a flower.
developement
early in my development, I knew that I wanted to pursue this type of form
mechanics
understanding how the user would interact with the lamp, a pulley system was developed. One set of strings attached to the inside and another wrapped around the top and would pull it back into place.
first iteration
second iteration
in rhino, I created the stencil for each petal of the lamp to be cut with an industrial vinyl cutter using a plastic poster board. I placed holes on each tab to be able to hand stitch the pieces together due to material size constraints.
